Hydromol Ointment is an intensive and highly effective emollient designed to soothe, hydrate, and protect dry, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin. Its rich, occlusive formulation helps to lock in moisture and create a protective barrier, preventing further moisture loss while promoting skin healing. Suitable for use on all areas of the body, including the face, Hydromol Ointment is free from fragrance, preservatives, and colourants, making it ideal for those with delicate or reactive skin.

This ointment is highly versatile and can be used as a daily moisturiser, a protective barrier for conditions such as eczema and dermatitis, or even as an emollient bath additive to provide full-body hydration. It contains a high lipid content, ensuring deep penetration into the skin’s layers for long-lasting hydration and relief from dryness and irritation. Dermatologically tested, Hydromol Ointment is a trusted solution for maintaining healthy, nourished skin, particularly in individuals suffering from chronic dry skin conditions.

More Information
Directions
  • As an emollient: Apply liberally to clean, dry skin as often as required, particularly after washing or bathing, to lock in moisture.

  • For eczema and dry skin conditions: Use regularly to keep the skin hydrated and prevent flare-ups.

  • As a bath additive: Dissolve a small amount of Hydromol Ointment in warm bath water to provide all-over hydration. Take care, as the bath may become slippery.

  • For hands and feet: Apply a thick layer before bed and cover with cotton gloves or socks for overnight intensive hydration.
Ingredients
  • Yellow Soft Paraffin – Provides a protective barrier, locking in moisture and preventing dehydration.
  • Liquid Paraffin – Aids in softening and smoothing the skin while reducing water loss.
  • Cetostearyl Alcohol – Helps to stabilise the formulation and enhances the ointment’s texture and spreadability.
Warnings
  • External use only – Do not ingest or apply to mucous membranes.
  • Avoid contact with eyes – If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • May cause slipping – If used as a bath additive, be cautious as the bath surface may become slippery.
  • Flammable – Keep away from open flames or sources of ignition due to its high paraffin content.
  • Consult a doctor – If skin irritation worsens or if symptoms persist despite use.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Skin irritation – Rare but may include mild redness, burning, or itching upon application.
  • Allergic reactions – Some individuals may experience an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, including swelling or rash.
  • Folliculitis – Prolonged use in skin folds may lead to clogged pores and mild follicle inflammation.
  • Greasy residue – The high paraffin content may leave a greasy feeling on the skin, which may transfer onto clothing or bedding.
  • Increased risk of fire – Due to its flammable nature, fabrics in contact with treated skin should be washed thoroughly to reduce fire risk.

Fire Hazards with Paraffin-Based and Paraffin-Free Skin Products

You have been provided with this information because we are supplying you with a paraffin-based/emollient product that is associated with a risk of fire.

If you are using an emollient, particularly a paraffin-based skin product, which is covered by a dressing or clothing, there is a danger that smoking or being near a naked flame could cause your dressing or clothing to catch fire.

Listed below are some important points to consider:

  • Do not smoke, use naked flames (or be near people who are smoking or using naked flames), or go near anything else that may cause a fire while the emollient is in contact with your clothes, dressing, or bandages (for example, do not lean over a lit gas cooker or candle, and do not allow lit cigarettes to touch clothing or dressings).
  • Ensure that your clothes and bedding are changed regularly (preferably daily), as the paraffin can soak into fabric and potentially become a fire hazard.
  • Wash bedding and clothing at high temperatures (between 60-90 degrees Celsius) to reduce the build-up of paraffin. Avoid wearing delicate garments when using emollient creams, as they cannot be washed at high temperatures without causing damage.
  • Be careful to ensure that the paraffin does not soak into chairs, seating, or other furniture by covering them with a throw that can be washed daily.
  • Inform your relatives or carers about your treatment and show them this leaflet.
  • Tell your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist if you normally smoke, as they will be able to offer you help and advice to stop smoking.

Your treatment is important, but it is essential that you are kept safe while using these prescribed products. By following the advice above, you will help ensure that you are using these products safely.

Please speak to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist if you have any questions about the information provided.
