Pollen Season - Hayfever

Pollen Season - Hayfever

What is hayfever?

NHS England describes hayfever as: “an allergic reaction to pollen, typically when it comes into contact with your mouth, nose, eyes and throat”. This allergic reaction can cause cold-like symptoms (more on that in a mo) like sneezing and a scratchy throat.

Because plants release pollen, symptoms can be triggered and worsen at certain times of the year when nature is in full swing. The seasonal cycle includes tree pollen in spring, grass pollen in summer, and weed and mould pollens in autumn. You could be allergic to one or many types of pollen, and you may find that your symptoms change (and may even improve) as you get older.

Hayfever treatments (you can get today!)

The bad news is there’s no cure for hayfever. But, if you’re reading this through stinging, streaming eyes, we do have good news. You can get over-the-counter treatments that can help ease your symptoms.

Antihistamines – or ‘allergy tablets’ as on the box – are formulated to prevent an allergic reaction from occurring and help relieve symptoms. They’re an excellent all-around treatment as they may help ease multiple symptoms at once.

You can also try targeted treatments to soothe irritation like eye drops to rehydrate red eyes and nasal sprays to clear up congestion.

If you’re looking for a preventative treatment, hayfever wipes work by trapping and removing pollen from your skin before it has a chance to wreak havoc on your senses. Simply run the soothing peppermint and tea tree-infused wipe over your face and hands and step out into the sunshine with added peace of mind – perfect for keeping pesky pollen at bay when you’re on the go.
